I have been working through the Storyline workbook recently to better connect with my past and better plan for my future. Each module that must be completed is more therapeutic than the one before it, but so far, the one that has had the most impact on me, is when I made a timeline of my life thus far. To begin, you reflect on your life and write short paragraphs on the life altering events that occurred, ranking them on a scale of -10 to 10. Next, you flip the page and put them on a timeline, with the positive events being on the top, and the negative underneath. How interesting to look back on a timeline of my own life!
After studying these events and the timeline itself, you're asked to come up with a theme for your life. I followed the threads from event to event, prayed over it, and looked again. HE IS FAITHFUL AND HIS PLAN FOR ME IS GOOD. That's what I came up with. That theme is so very obvious throughout my life. As the song says, "All I have needed Thy Hand hath provided".
It was definitely a challenge to look back on the events on the negative side of the timeline, but seeing them on paper helped me see how Christ brought me through. I couldn't ignore the fact that after every negative turn, He had a blessing waiting around the corner! It was also obvious that He was faithful to me, even when I chose NOT to be faithful to Him.
If you know me, you know how anxious I can become about any unknown in life. I wrongly doubt His good will for my life (backwards thinking indeed). The timeline showed me that He was ALWAYS working things out for my good, even when it didn't seem that way to me. How I will try to hold onto that understanding in my future. This song will forever serve as a reminder of His constant faithfulness and His good plan.
Thank you Lord, for being faithful, when I, a wandering sheep, didn't even notice your presence. Remind me daily of your faithfulness, keep it at the forefront of my mind and may my every action be made in light of this truth: You are faithful and Your plan for me is good. In the precious name of your son, Jesus, Amen.
